How this comparison was made

A tariff API should do more than return a code. This page compares tariff APIs on whether documentation is public, how keys are issued, published pricing, and which US duty layers each says it returns.

  • Every statement about another product restates that product's own public page as read on October 8, 2026, and links it. Where a vendor does not publish a fact, the table says so.
  • Statements about US Tariff Rates come from its published plans and API documentation, linked the same way.
  • Limits: we did not buy or test the paid tiers of other products; prices and features change after the check date; we publish US Tariff Rates, so weigh our own row accordingly.

What each option is compared on

Supports HTS search, exact lookup, bulk lookup, and landed-cost calculation.
Returns structured duty layers rather than one opaque rate.
Includes source freshness, effective-date, and trade-remedy context where available.
Has self-serve keys, pricing, and documentation for developers.

Get API key

Documented

  • REST endpoints for HTS search, lookup, bulk lookup, landed-cost calculation, trade-remedy screening, and source freshness.
  • Response fields include a rate_stack of per-program duty layers (for example, base_mfn, section_122, section_232 and section_301), plus total_additional_pct, total_estimated, and risk_layers for AD/CVD and other fact-dependent screening context.
  • Self-serve keys, an OpenAPI 3.1 file, and a hosted MCP server using the same key.

Limits

  • US-focused tariff data, not a universal global customs tariff API.
  • AD/CVD fields are screening context and do not establish exact entry liability by themselves.
  • Not a binding classification ruling; only CBP issues those.
  • AD/CVD results (risk_layers) are screening context with the underlying orders, not entry liability. source

FAQ

What is the best tariff API for US import duty rates?

It depends on whether you need raw schedule data or a computed duty stack. The USITC HTS REST API is official and needs no key but returns schedule entries. US Tariff Rates returns each US duty program as a separate field with self-serve keys and published prices. Avalara and Zonos cover many countries without published API prices.

What fields should a tariff API return?

A practical US tariff API should return HTS code, description, base duty, country context, Section 301, Section 232, Section 122 where applicable, total estimated deterministic duty, warnings, evidence, and AD/CVD risk context.

Can a tariff API determine exact AD/CVD cash deposits?

No API should claim exact AD/CVD liability from HTS code and country alone. Written scope, product facts, exporter or producer, case status, and entry details can control the final cash-deposit result.
