US Auto Parts Tariff Rates

Section 232 imposes a 25% tariff on covered automobile and auto parts imports under Proclamation 10908. USMCA-compliant content carries an exemption; MHDV (medium- and heavy-duty vehicles) follow a separate 25%/10% framework under Proclamation 10984.

USMCA content rule

USMCA-compliant auto content is excluded from the Section 232 25% — but only the US/Mexico/Canada portion of the content qualifies. A vehicle with 60% USMCA content sees Section 232 25% applied to the 40% non-USMCA portion of the customs value.

Producers must document USMCA content via the Vehicle Certification (US-Japan Annex) or equivalent supplier certifications. CBP audits this calculation aggressively post-entry.

MHDV — separate proclamation

Medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, parts, and buses fall under Proclamation 10984, not 10908. Vehicles and parts get the same 25% rate; buses (HTS 8702) get a 10% rate. The proclamation took effect 2025-11-01.
